WA Classical Guitar Society OrchestraThe orchestra was formed in 2002 by former CGSWA President Murray Bishop (the group's artistic director and administrator) as a vehicle for solo guitarists to enjoy playing standard, bass and requinto guitars in an ensemble setting. The Orchestra is normally conducted by Amanda Alexander (Guitar teacher and performer) with guest conductors occasionally taking the helm.
The performers currently range in age from 13 to 60 plus, and come from across the community. People in many different professions who share a common interest in the guitar come together to rehearse and the repertoire is broad - from the Renaissance to the 21st century with a smattering of light popular.
Whilst it is a community orchestra, excellence is always strived for and players need to have achieved a certain playing standard. However, even people without a lot of performance based background have improved enormously and gained huge satisfaction from their experience both during the rehearsals and in the Concerts following. To date, the Orchestra has enjoyed immense success and has played to many an audience. Please do not hesitate to email Amanda on ap_alex@bigpond.net.au if you would like to come and play in the Orchestra or would just like to know a little more.
